The UK's premier
ice cream competition
Organised by the Ice Cream Alliance, the Golden Scoop Awards celebrate the very best ice cream made in Britain and Ireland. Every sample is judged blind by an expert panel and accredited with a 1 to 5 star rating that customers can trust.
Eight decades of
growing this trade
The Golden Scoop Awards are organised by the Ice Cream Alliance. For over eight decades the Alliance has been dedicated to one simple mission: growing and supporting the ice cream industry. From small artisan makers to large scale producers, the goal has always been to help businesses thrive and to bring more people into this vibrant trade.
The Awards are designed to give your products the recognition they deserve. Each entry is judged and accredited with a 1 to 5 star rating, helping your ice cream stand out from competitors and giving consumers confidence in their choice. A star rating builds trust with customers and works as a marketing tool that can directly boost your sales.
Recognition is given at both regional and national levels. And for one outstanding entrant, the highest honour awaits: the coveted Golden Scoop National Champion title, reserved for an ice cream maker who demonstrates exceptional skill, consistency and all round excellence.
How a sample is judged
Judges never see who made what. Samples arrive in identical unmarked tubs and are scored on what is in the pot alone.
Taking part is not just about competing
It is about unlocking opportunities for your business and gaining recognition that sets you apart. Here is what entering can do for you.
One to five stars, earned against the best in the class
Samples are rated on how closely they match the top score in their class. To be awarded any rating at all, a sample must reach at least 85% of that top score. Nothing below that is rated.
The highest level of recognition, showcasing perfect harmony of flavour, texture and appearance.
Consistently impressive, with outstanding quality that delights in every scoop.
A strong performance, delivering delicious flavour and enjoyable texture that stand out.
A rewarding achievement that highlights skill and craft, offering plenty to enjoy.
Officially accredited as a quality product with great potential and appeal.
What winning actually did for them
A star rating is not a certificate for the office wall. It moves product, it gets you in the local press, and for some it funds the next shop. Here is what last year’s winners reported.
