Welcome

Eight decades of
growing this trade

The Golden Scoop Awards are organised by the Ice Cream Alliance. For over eight decades the Alliance has been dedicated to one simple mission: growing and supporting the ice cream industry. From small artisan makers to large scale producers, the goal has always been to help businesses thrive and to bring more people into this vibrant trade.

The Awards are designed to give your products the recognition they deserve. Each entry is judged and accredited with a 1 to 5 star rating, helping your ice cream stand out from competitors and giving consumers confidence in their choice. A star rating builds trust with customers and works as a marketing tool that can directly boost your sales.

Recognition is given at both regional and national levels. And for one outstanding entrant, the highest honour awaits: the coveted Golden Scoop National Champion title, reserved for an ice cream maker who demonstrates exceptional skill, consistency and all round excellence.

Why enter

Taking part is not just about competing

It is about unlocking opportunities for your business and gaining recognition that sets you apart. Here is what entering can do for you.

Credibility and trust

Your ice cream is judged by experts and accredited with a 1 to 5 star rating. An independent seal of approval that reassures customers your products are high quality and industry endorsed.

Boost sales and visibility

A star rating is a marketing tool. Use it on packaging, menus, social media and in press releases to attract attention, build consumer confidence and increase sales.

Expert feedback you can trust

Every entrant receives detailed, constructive feedback from highly respected judges. The same expert panel assesses all classes, so you get consistency, fairness and reliable comparisons.

Regional and national recognition

Your products are celebrated locally and across the country. Winners also benefit from PR coverage in both trade and consumer media, giving your brand a valuable spotlight.

The ultimate title

One entrant receives the Golden Scoop National Champion Award, recognising an ice cream maker who demonstrates all round excellence. Winning it cements your reputation as one of the very best.

Exclusive member benefits

The rating

One to five stars, earned against the best in the class

Samples are rated on how closely they match the top score in their class. To be awarded any rating at all, a sample must reach at least 85% of that top score. Nothing below that is rated.

Exceptional
95% and above

The highest level of recognition, showcasing perfect harmony of flavour, texture and appearance.

Excellent
93.5% and above

Consistently impressive, with outstanding quality that delights in every scoop.

Very good
92% and above

A strong performance, delivering delicious flavour and enjoyable texture that stand out.

Good
90% and above

A rewarding achievement that highlights skill and craft, offering plenty to enjoy.

Recognised
85% and above

Officially accredited as a quality product with great potential and appeal.

Two classes sit outside the National Champion title. Best Newcomer and Signature Soft Serve Creation are star rated in exactly the same way as every other class, but a win in either does not count towards the Golden Scoop National Champion. Newcomer entries also carry a stronger emphasis on detailed feedback, for producers trading under three years.

What winning actually did for them

A star rating is not a certificate for the office wall. It moves product, it gets you in the local press, and for some it funds the next shop. Here is what last year’s winners reported.
